Editing Services

I have been working as a freelance editor, writer and photographer for over a decade. I was the editor-in-chief of The DownTown, an arts and entertainment magazine, and I published my first book, 101 Writing Prompts for Fantasy and Science Fiction Writers, vol. 1, on June 1, 2012. I am currently working on the second book in the series, as well as a novella.

My specialty is developing long-term relationships with writers and guiding them through the editing process as well as helping them submit their finished work to publishers and agents. My editing style is about constructive criticism and encouragement. Be aware, I will be hard on you. That is how writers get published, and how they publish their best work. But I won't just tell you something doesn't work, I will tell you how to fix it.

My rates are pretty simple.

For full-length manuscripts (100+ pages), I charge $1-2 per page for line editing, and $3-5 for a more intense edit (which includes line editing and a global edit). If you have already produced several drafts, and you feel ready to send your manuscript out, the line edit may be perfect for you. A more intense edit is great if you're still on the first or second draft of your manuscript, if you have a partial manuscript, or you are struggling with resolution for the story.

Line Editing - Of course this includes corrections for grammar and spelling, but it also includes checking for consistency of style, tone and flow, as well consistency to the story.

Global Editing -  This is an evaluation of the structure of the novel, both in terms of the story and flow and in terms of the actual layout of the chapters. This also examines character development, the voice of the narrator, themes and plot, and more. This global edit will be a separate document with a list of suggestions and minor rewrites of certain passages.

I 'audition' for all of my new clients by editing five pages of a manuscript. This will give you an idea of my editing style, and help us both discover if we're a good fit. I will be happy to offer a quote for shorter manuscripts (short stories, poetry, etc.)
